ABOUT EMILIE
Behind Waves
IT ALL STARTED IN 2024
Emilie has a master's degree in IT project management and had not worked professionally with art or design. Waves did not arise from a plan, but from a curiosity and a need to create something with her hands.
"Even though my background did not point towards me working professionally with art and design, it felt like a completely natural step. My gut feeling has been my most important compass, especially when big decisions had to be made. It has never been about following a fixed plan, but about feeling where curiosity and desire led us.
I don't need to know how I should do things. I'm perfectly fine with not having a design background. It gives me the freedom to create based on intuition and feeling, to let the materials, colors, and processes develop naturally and become what they want to be."

From idea to reality
THE BEGINNING OF WAVES
"It wasn't an easy path to arrive at the first design. We had to go through 50+ prototypes before mastering the curing time, color, and shapes of each. All the artworks are created by hand, and therefore we can never be completely sure how they will look in the end. But that's also the whole point."

"I believe that as a collector, you can sense when a work of art is created from genuine passion and an original idea. You can feel the difference when you buy from a small studio like ours, instead of a mass-produced brand. Kasper's and my thoughts have become part of the brand's identity, the narrative, and every single piece." — Emilie

Part of an international arts organisation
I am proud to be a member of the Michelangelo Foundation, an online platform dedicated to craftsmanship, which allows you to discover artisans and their masterpieces.
The Homo Faber Guide is a signature project developed by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, an international non-profit organisation based in Geneva, Switzerland.
Their mission is to celebrate and preserve master craftsmanship, and for this reason the organisation has created a map of some of the most significant representatives in this field, with the aim of connecting all stakeholders: artisans, designers, gallery owners, curators, collectors and enthusiasts of handmade quality works.
Behind the scenes
"My ambition is to create works that make people pause and awaken a curiosity to explore every detail. I choose materials based on their unique properties, something rarely seen used in this way, and that is precisely what makes each piece completely unique.
It has always been important for me to create something new and work with materials that stand out. Glass and ceramics are beautiful, but also very commonly used. That's why I started experimenting with bio-based resin, a material with very special properties.
It is a lightweight material, and is both waterproof and UV-protected, so it retains its clarity and color over time. At the same time, it can be shaped and bent in ways that would be too fragile for glass. I use almost no energy in the creation phase, and there is virtually no waste, which is otherwise typical in many traditional productions."

Questions from you
Do you do special orders?
Yes, Emilie is now fully dedicated to creating designs for Waves and therefore works with both commissions and project-based collaborations. Send an email to Hello@wavesstudio.dk if you have a good idea!
How can I be sure how my artwork looks?
Art is not meant to be the same, or perfect. Therefore, you cannot be 100% sure how your new artwork will look. All works of art are handmade and of a high content of bio-based resin. Each side is unique, and this gives you the freedom to choose which side you like best and which fits best into your home. As with all works of art, we focus on soft, organic shapes and a minimalist design that can be used both with and without flowers. If it is very important for you to see the artwork before you buy, you can visit us at fairs, or write to hello@wavesstudio.dk .
When will new designs come out?
Creativity comes and goes, so do our designs. Therefore, you cannot be sure that a certain design will be in our range or when new ones will arrive. You can follow along on Instagram, Facebook or through our newsletter when there are new designs on the way.
What is Collectors Club?
If you are interested in design, art, and think it's cool to know about new trends, then Collectors Club is the perfect place for you!
Become part of the community by subscribing to our newsletter. This gives you VIP access to purchase artwork before we launch it, and influence over which designs we create.
You will have the opportunity to be invited to design fairs when we have a booth, as we often have some free tickets available. It's always nice to get out of the house a bit.
